How the lakh/crore system works
In Bangladesh amounts are grouped the South Asian way. The first three digits from the right form the hundreds, then digits go in pairs:
crore · lakh · thousand · hundred · units
1,23,45,678 = One Crore Twenty-Three Lakh Forty-Five Thousand Six Hundred Seventy-Eight.
The same number in the international system is 12,345,678 = Twelve Million Three Hundred Forty-Five Thousand Six Hundred Seventy-Eight.

Cheque-writing tips
- Start the words at the far left of the line, end with “Only” and draw a line through the empty space.
- In the figures box, write the amount after “Tk” or “৳” and finish with “/-”, e.g. 12,50,000/-.
- Avoid corrections. If you make a mistake, writing a new cheque is safer.
- Skip the paisa part when there is no paisa.

Almost every number from 1 to 99 has its own word in Bangla, so spelling mistakes are common. This tool uses standard (প্রমিত) spelling, for example 19 = উনিশ, 29 = উনত্রিশ, 79 = উনআশি and 99 = নিরানব্বই. Hundreds are written “একশত”, “দুইশত” on cheques and deeds, even though people say “একশো” in speech. The Bangla version of this page lists all 99 words.
