Examples
Marks: 70, 80 and 90 give a total of 240, so the average = 240 ÷ 3 = 80.
Expenses: spending 12,000, 15,000 and 18,000 over 3 months gives an average of 45,000 ÷ 3 = 15,000 taka.
Notes
Zero counts: the average of 0, 10 and 20 is 10, because zero is a number. An empty box is not counted.
More than 4 numbers: split them into two groups if you have more than 4.

The average gives one representative number for many values — mean monthly cost, mean marks, mean temperature. One very small or very large value can pull it away, so always glance at the smallest and largest values shown beside it.

What is the formula for the average?
Average = sum of all numbers ÷ how many numbers. For example 4 + 6 + 10 = 20; 20 ÷ 3 = 6.67.
What if I enter only one number?
Enter at least 2 numbers. The average of a single number is that number itself, so this calculator asks for 2 or more.
What happens to an empty box?
Empty boxes are ignored. If you fill 3 of the 4 boxes, the average of those 3 is shown.
Can I average decimal numbers?
Yes. For example the average of 5.5 and 4.5 is 5. Results show up to 2 decimal places.
How do I average exam marks?

Is the average the same as the median?
No. The average is sum ÷ count; the median is the middle of sorted values. For 1, 2, 100 the average is 34.33 but the median is 2.
