Choose whether you are buying, selling old gold or exchanging it.
Pick the karat: 22, 21, 18 or traditional.
Enter the weight in vori-ana-roti or in grams.
The price is prefilled from BAJUS; change it if your shop's price differs. Making charge can be higher for intricate designs.
How the price is worked out
Gold value = weight (in vori) × price per voriMaking charge = gold value × making rate (minimum 6%)VAT = (gold value + making charge) × 5%Total = gold value + making charge + VAT
If you have grams, convert first: vori = grams ÷ 11.664.
Example
Say 22K costs ৳2,00,000 per vori and you buy 1 vori 4 ana (1.25 vori):
Gold value = 1.25 × 2,00,000 = ৳2,50,000
Making charge 6% = ৳15,000
VAT 5% = (2,50,000 + 15,000) × 5% = ৳13,250
Total = ৳2,78,250
Selling the same 1.25 vori of old gold with a 15% deduction gets you about 2,50,000 × 85% = ৳2,12,500.
Good to know in Bangladesh
BAJUS sets the price. It adjusts prices based on world markets and local pure-gold prices; new prices usually take effect the day after the announcement. The date of the price used here is shown in the calculator.
Making charge is negotiable. 6% is the minimum; intricate designs may cost more.
Ask for a receipt showing karat, weight (vori-ana-roti), making charge and VAT separately. Check the weight with the vori-ana-roti converter.
Karat measures purity. 24K is nearly pure but too soft for most jewellery, so 22K or 21K is common, with the rest made of copper or silver.
A hallmark is an official purity stamp; hallmarked jewellery causes fewer disputes when sold. Traditional gold usually has no hallmark, so BAJUS sets a separate, lower price for it.
When buying back or exchanging old jewellery, shops deduct a share for alloy, stones and wear; the 2024 BAJUS directive set this at 15% for selling and 10% for exchanging. The weight of stones is normally excluded from the gold weight.
Frequently asked questions
How much VAT and making charge is added to the gold price?
BAJUS requires 5% VAT and a minimum 6% making charge on top of the gold price. Shops may charge more making charge for complex designs.
What is the price of 1 ana of gold?
1 ana is 1/16 of a vori, so its price is the per-vori price ÷ 16. Enter 0 vori 1 ana above to see the full price with VAT and making charge.
What is the price of 1 gram of gold in Bangladesh?
BAJUS also announces a per-gram price. The table below lists per-gram and per-vori prices for every karat.
How much will I get for selling old gold?
Under a 2024 BAJUS directive, shops deduct 15% of the current price when buying old jewellery and 10% when exchanging it. These rates are being re-verified, so ask your shop.
What is the difference between 21K and 22K?
24K is nearly pure gold. 22K is 22 parts in 24 (about 91.6%) gold and 21K about 87.5%. More alloy makes jewellery harder and cheaper.
What is traditional (sanatan) gold?
BAJUS uses 'traditional' for older, non-hallmarked gold. Its purity is assumed lower, so its price is lower.
