How fares are set

Fare = station-to-station distance × Tk 5 per km (minimum Tk 20, in multiples of Tk 10)

The Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) set this policy in 2022, and DMTCL publishes a fixed fare for every pair of stations. This calculator doesn’t estimate from distance — it reads the fare straight from that chart.

  • MRT Pass / Rapid Pass: 10% off every trip, rounded to whole taka.
  • War-wounded freedom fighters: travel free.
  • Passengers with disabilities: a special concession applies to single journeys; ask at the station.

Example

Mirpur 10 to Motijheel, both ways, 22 days a month? With single tickets: Tk 60 one way, Tk 120 a day, Tk 120 × 22 = Tk 2,640 a month. With an MRT Pass: Tk 54 one way, Tk 2,376 a month — a saving of Tk 264.

More: tickets, passes and VAT

A single-journey ticket is bought from the station vending machine or counter and works for that one trip. The MRT Pass is DMTCL’s rechargeable card and the Rapid Pass is Dhaka’s integrated transit card — both take 10% less each time.

VAT: metro tickets are still VAT-free. A 15% VAT would raise every fare (a Tk 20 fare would become Tk 23). The FY2026-27 budget proposed extending the exemption by two years; this page will be updated once the final notice is confirmed.

One mismatch in the chart: DMTCL’s printed chart shows Uttara Center → Shahbag as Tk 70 one way and Tk 80 the other. We use Tk 70, which matches the Uttara Center row and an independent copy of the chart. The fare shown by the station machine is final.
