Bus and CNG Fares

Since 22 September 2026: Tk 2.70/km on city buses (minimum Tk 10), Tk 2.60/km on city minibuses (minimum Tk 8), Tk 2.40/km on inter-district buses. Enter the distance for the per-person fare with toll, or a CNG meter fare.

How this was calculated
  1. ৳2.7 per km × 10 km = ৳27
  2. Total fare = ৳27

How to use

  1. Pick bus or CNG. For a bus, choose the vehicle type — city bus, city minibus or inter-district.
  2. Enter the distance in km. On inter-district buses, add any toll paid and the seat count (51 standard / 40 luxury).
  3. For a CNG, add waiting minutes to the distance — first 2 km Tk 40, then Tk 12/km, Tk 2 per waiting minute.

How fares are set

Bus fare = distance × per-km rate (+ toll ÷ seats on inter-district routes); the minimum fare applies when the calculation comes out lower

CNG fare = Tk 40 for the first 2 km + Tk 12 per extra km + Tk 2 per waiting minute

BRTA’s gazette of 22 September 2026 (effective the same day) raised per-km rates — city bus from 2.53 to Tk 2.70, city minibus from 2.43 to Tk 2.60, inter-district from 2.23 to Tk 2.40. Any chart still quoting 2.53/2.23 is the stale set.

  • Minimum fare: Tk 10 on city buses, Tk 8 on city minibuses. A 2 km city-bus ride (2 × 2.70 = 5.4) still costs Tk 10.
  • Toll split: toll paid on an inter-district route is divided by total seats and added per person.
  • 40-seat luxury bus: fare = per-km × km × 51/40.

Example

10 km on a city bus? 10 × 2.70 = Tk 27.

100 km inter-district with a Tk 750 toll? Base fare 100 × 2.40 = 240; toll share 750 ÷ 51 ≈ 14.7; total about Tk 255.

5 km by CNG, no waiting? First 2 km 40 + 3 extra km × 12 = Tk 76.

When the minimum bites: whenever distance × rate falls below the floor, the floor applies. Under 3.7 km on a city bus you always pay Tk 10; under 3.1 km on a minibus, Tk 8.

Why the toll is split: the operator pays a bridge or expressway toll once, but the cost is shared across passengers — so a Tk 750 toll means about Tk 14.7 each on a 51-seater and Tk 18.8 on a 40-seater.

A warning on CNGs: the meter rates date from 1 November 2015, and outlets disagree on whether the per-km leg is 12 or 14 — hence the “being verified” badge in the calculator. Worse, most drivers ignore working meters altogether. Fares climb further at night, in rain or in a hurry — settle the destination and price before getting in.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't CNGs run on the meter?

The meter rates (first 2 km Tk 40, then Tk 12/km) exist on paper, but most drivers refuse meter trips — commuter complaints were in the news again in 2025. Always agree the fare before boarding.

How far does the minimum fare cover?

Tk 10 on a city bus covers about 3.7 km (10 ÷ 2.70); Tk 8 on a city minibus covers about 3.1 km (8 ÷ 2.60).

Why do 51-seat and 40-seat buses charge differently?

Inter-district fares are set on a 51-seat basis; a 40-seat luxury bus charges 51/40 times more — Tk 306 instead of Tk 240 for 100 km.

Is the toll included in the fare?

On inter-district buses the toll is split across seats and added to the fare. A Tk 750 toll over 100 km adds about Tk 14.7 per person on a 51-seater.

How do fares rise when fuel prices rise?

BRTA raises the per-km rate by gazette when diesel prices move — the 22 September 2026 gazette added 17 paisa per km. This page uses that gazette.

Where do I complain about overcharging?

Note the vehicle number, date and route, then report it to BRTA's complaint centre (website or hotline).
