Boring: how many feet must be drilled, times the mason’s per-foot rate.
Pipe: usually as long as the bore is deep; priced per foot for PVC or GI.
Pump/head: a hand-pump head (RFL heads Tk 2,860–5,080) or a motor (0.5–2 HP submersible/centrifugal/jet).
Platform: the concrete base around the tubewell plus labour (Tk 4,000–8,000 band).
Example
A 150 ft hand tubewell on the plain?
Boring 150 × Tk 100 = Tk 15,000. Pipe 150 × Tk 120 = Tk 18,000. Head Tk 3,970. Platform Tk 6,000. Total = 15,000 + 18,000 + 3,970 + 6,000 = Tk 42,970.
What to know in Bangladesh
Depth norms: shallow drinking-water tubewells run 50–150 ft; beyond about 500 ft counts as deep.
Barind warning: some Barind villages find no water even at great depth — consult a local mason or DPHE before boring.
Coastal warning: never install pipe on the coast without a salinity test; salty water may force a new depth or site.
Arsenic: test the water for arsenic once struck (DPHE / union parishad).

More: pipes, motors and government tubewells
PVC vs GI: PVC pipe is cheap, light and rust-free — the common choice for shallow household wells. GI pipe is strong and takes pressure, so it is safer for deep bores or where the pipe may take knocks. But GI costs more and can accumulate rust inside over many years. Put the shop’s current per-foot price into the calculator — prices move.
If you need a motor: under 200 ft of lift usually takes 1 HP, 200–350 ft takes 1–1.5 HP, and deeper lifts take 1.5–2 HP (always round up). September 2026 shop prices start around Tk 8,799 for a 0.5 HP submersible, Tk 11,400–12,300 for 1 HP, Tk 13,199 for 1.5 HP and Tk 15,800 for 2 HP. Motor selection, wire size, breaker and earthing all belong to a licensed electrician; never run a motor dry.
Government/subsidised tubewells: DPHE’s deep tubewell programme takes applications through the union parishad chairman; see the myGov portal for service details. Allocations, priority and conditions change year to year — the union parishad is the final source. This page’s calculator estimates private costs; no subsidy is deducted.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to install a tubewell?
Add four parts: boring (depth × per-foot rate) + pipe (length × per-foot price) + pump/head + platform. Example: at 150 ft and Tk 100/ft, boring is Tk 15,000; 150 ft of pipe at Tk 120 is Tk 18,000; a hand-pump head Tk 3,970; a platform Tk 6,000 — Tk 42,970 in total. Enter your own figures in the calculator above.
Is Tk 100 per foot too much for boring?
Tk 100/ft is a widely quoted 2026 example, but rates move with soil, depth and area. Sylhet vendor bands suggest Tk 15–30 thousand for 200–300 ft, Tk 30–55 thousand for 300–500 ft and Tk 55–90 thousand for 500–800 ft. Get quotes from two or three masons and compare.
How deep should the tubewell be in my area?
Drinking-water shallow tubewells are usually 50–150 ft; anything beyond about 500 ft counts as deep. The calculator presets 150 ft for the plains, 450 for Barind and 600 for the coast — but the depth that struck water at a neighbour's house is your most reliable guide.
PVC or GI pipe — which should I choose?
PVC is cheap and never rusts but breaks more easily; GI is strong and durable but costs more and can rust internally over many years. PVC suits ordinary shallow household wells, GI suits deep bores and heavy use.
How much for a hand tubewell without a motor?
Choose the hand-pump head option (Tk 2,860–5,080 band, Tk 3,970 midpoint by default). With no motor there is no wiring or motor cost — the 150 ft example comes to about Tk 42,970.
How do I get a government or subsidised deep tubewell?
DPHE's subsidised deep tubewells are applied for through the union parishad chairman — check the myGov portal for the service details and application route. Allocations and conditions change year to year, so the union parishad is the final source. This page estimates private costs; subsidies are not deducted here.
