How DPS is calculated
Each instalment is deposited at the start of the month. Profit is worked out monthly on the running balance and added every month (or every three months). With monthly crediting the maturity value is:
Maturity = D × [((1 + i)ⁿ − 1) ÷ i] × (1 + i)
where D is the monthly instalment, i the monthly rate (annual ÷ 12 ÷ 100) and n the number of months. Source tax is taken from the total profit at maturity.
