How this was calculated
  1. First-term profit = ৳1,00,000 × 10% × 12/12 = ৳10,000
  2. Source tax at 10% = ৳1,000
  3. Excise duty on each year's highest balance, total ৳0
  4. Payout at maturity ৳1,09,000

How to use

  1. Enter the FDR amount (e.g. ‘2 lakh’).
  2. Enter the bank's annual profit rate.
  3. Pick the term of one FDR: 1, 3, 6 or 12 months, or switch to Years.
  4. Enter how many times it auto-renews (e.g. 3 renewals of a 3-month FDR = one year).
  5. Choose PSR and excise duty options; the take-home amount updates instantly.

FDR profit formula

For each term:

Profit = principal × annual rate × (months ÷ 12)

Source tax is deducted from the profit. On auto-renewal the after-tax amount becomes the next principal. Excise duty is charged once a year.

Examples

One-year FDR: ৳1 lakh at 10%, with PSR → profit ৳10,000, tax ৳1,000, payout ৳1,09,000. No excise duty below ৳4 lakh.

3-month FDR renewed for a year: ৳5 lakh at 10%, four 3-month terms → ৳5,46,542 after tax; the highest balance falls in the ৳5–10 lakh slab, so ৳500 excise duty leaves ৳5,46,042.

What to know in Bangladesh

  • Source tax: 10% of profit; 15% without PSR.
  • Excise duty: exempt up to ৳4 lakh in FY 2026-27; slabs can change each budget.
  • Day count: some banks use days ÷ 365 instead of months, so results may differ by a few taka.
  • Renewal rate: the bank’s rate at renewal applies; this calculator keeps one rate throughout.

Frequently asked questions

How much profit does ৳1 lakh earn per month in an FDR?

At 10%, ৳10,000 a year, about ৳833 a month; after 10% source tax, ৳9,000 a year or ৳750 a month.

How much source tax is deducted?

10% of the profit, or 15% if you must file a return but cannot show proof of submission (PSR).

What is excise duty on bank deposits?

A once-a-year charge on the account's highest balance. In FY 2026-27 balances up to ৳4 lakh are exempt; ৳5–10 lakh pays ৳500 and ৳10–50 lakh ৳3,000. Some slabs are still being verified.

Do short FDRs renewed several times earn more?

Each renewal adds the after-tax profit to the principal, so at the same rate you earn slightly more. But short-term rates are usually lower and can change at renewal.

What if I break an FDR early?

Most banks pay a lower rate (often the savings rate) or nothing if broken very early. A loan against the FDR is an alternative.
