Saving ৳5,000 a month for 5 years at a 7.25% provisional rate is expected to pay ৳3,56,220 after tax. Depending on the final rate it may be ৳3,51,892 to ৳3,60,622.

This is an estimate at the provisional rate. The bank declares the final rate after the year closes, and many banks publish a fixed maturity table for the scheme, so small differences are normal.

Example rates: Islami Bank Bangladesh, provisional rates from 1 January 2026. They may have changed since — being verified. Enter your bank's rate.

How this was calculated
  1. Total deposit = ৳5,000 × 60 instalments = ৳3,00,000
  2. Monthly rate = 7.25% ÷ 12 = 0.6042%
  3. Profit is worked out monthly on the running balance and added monthly
  4. Maturity value ৳3,62,467, so profit is ৳62,467
  5. Source tax at 10% = ৳6,247; net payout ৳3,56,220
  6. If the final rate differs, the payout is ৳3,51,892 to ৳3,60,622

  5. Use the slider for how far the final rate may differ to see the range.

How profit is worked out (at the provisional rate)

Each instalment is deposited at the start of the month. Monthly rate = yearly provisional rate ÷ 12. Profit is worked out every month on the running balance and added monthly or every 3 months, depending on the scheme. Source tax is deducted from the total profit at maturity.

What to know in Bangladesh

  • Rates differ by bank and scheme: the table is one bank’s example; check your bank’s rate sheet.
  • Final rate after the year: the provisional rate is used now and adjusted to the final rate later.
  • Source tax: 10% of profit, 15% without proof of return submission (PSR).
  • Instalment rules: late payment, early closure and loans against the scheme differ by bank.
More: monthly savings or a term deposit?

If you don’t have a lump sum, a monthly savings scheme builds the habit. With a lump sum, a Mudaraba term deposit usually pays a higher rate. In a monthly scheme the early instalments earn for longer than the last ones, so the average profit on the total deposited looks like about half the stated rate — that is normal.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Mudaraba monthly savings scheme?

It is an Islamic bank's DPS-type scheme: you deposit a fixed instalment every month, and the investment income on the deposits is shared under Mudaraba and added as profit. At maturity you receive the deposits and profit together.

How is it different from a DPS calculation?

The arithmetic is almost the same — profit is worked out monthly on the running balance. The difference is that the Mudaraba rate is provisional; the final rate is declared after the year, and the profit is a share of investment income, not interest.

How much will ৳5,000 a month for 5 years give?

At a 7.25% provisional rate you deposit ৳3,00,000, earn about ৳62,467 profit, and receive about ৳3,56,220 after 10% source tax. Try your bank's rate above.

Why doesn't it match my bank's maturity table?

Many banks publish a fixed maturity table for the scheme, with their own crediting and rounding rules. A difference of a few hundred taka is normal.

What if I pay late or stop midway?

Rules differ by bank — some charge a late fee, and stopping early usually earns a lower rate. Check the terms when you open it.
