How the passport fee is set
The e-passport fee depends on three things: pages (48 or 64), validity (5 or 10 years) and delivery speed (regular, express, super express). Every published fee already includes 15% VAT.
Base fee = total ÷ 1.15, VAT = total − base fee
Example
A 64-page, 10-year passport with super express delivery:
Total (VAT included) ৳13,800
Base fee = ৳13,800 ÷ 1.15 = ৳12,000
VAT = ৳1,800
The same passport with regular delivery is ৳8,050, so speed costs ৳5,750 more

New and renewal: the same fee table applies to both.
Lost passport: file a GD at the police station first; the fee follows the same table.
Expatriates pay different fees: fees at missions abroad differ, and a cut for expatriates was under review in 2025–26.

If you travel abroad more than once a year, 64 pages is better, because visas and stamps fill pages quickly. A 10-year passport is cheaper per year: a regular 48-page passport costs ৳4,025 for 5 years (about ৳805 a year) and ৳5,750 for 10 years (৳575 a year).
If you are not in a hurry, regular delivery is enough. For urgent travel choose express or super express, but police verification can still add time.

Where do I pay the passport fee?
Online on the e-passport portal (epassport.gov.bd) while applying, or by bank challan at designated banks. Keep the receipt with your application.
Are fees the same when applying from abroad?
No. Bangladesh missions abroad charge separate fees in dollars or local currency, with lower rates for migrant workers. Check your embassy's fee list.
