How age is calculated
Age = whole years + whole months + remaining days since the date of birth
Step forward one month at a time from the date of birth until the next step would pass the chosen date.
Divide the whole months by 12: the quotient is years, the remainder is months.
Count the days from the last whole month to the chosen date.
Each month’s real length (28, 29, 30 or 31 days) and leap years are taken into account, so this is more accurate than dividing by 365.

15 May 1995 to 15 September 2026 is 376 whole months = 31 years 4 months
15 September to 2 October is 17 days
Age: 31 years 4 months 17 days (11,463 days in total, born on a Monday)
Example 2: job age limit (18–32 years)
Born 2 October 1994. If the circular date is 2 October 2026, the age is exactly 32, so within the limit. If the circular date is 3 October 2026, the age is 32 years 0 months 1 day, which is over the maximum.
What to know in Bangladesh
Government job age limit: under the 2024 ordinance, the maximum for direct recruitment is 32 years. Special posts and quotas can differ.
Which date counts: a circular usually names a specific date, such as the publication date or the application deadline. Enter that date under “On a specific date”.
Certificate date of birth: jobs and admissions usually accept the date on your SSC certificate or birth registration, so calculate with that date.

By hand: subtract the birth year, month and day from the chosen date’s year, month and day. If the days come out negative, borrow the previous month’s length; if the months are negative, borrow 12 months. This works in most cases, but birthdays at the end of a month (such as 31 January) can come out slightly off. This calculator avoids that by counting whole months.
Common mistakes:
Dividing by 365: leap years are missed, so the result is off by a few days.
Treating every month as 30 days: months and days come out wrong.
Using the wrong date: for jobs, the age that counts is on the date stated in the circular, not today.
