2 October 2026: after 14 April, so the year is 2026 − 593 = 1433. 171 days have passed since 14 April; Boishakh to Bhadro take 155, leaving 16 — so 17 Ashwin 1433, Friday, in Shorot.

16 December 1971 (Victory Day): under the revised rule, 1 Poush 1378, Thursday.

What to know in Bangladesh

  • Revised calendar: in 2019 the Bangla Academy fixed the month lengths so 21 February, 26 March and 16 December fall on the same Bangla dates every year. Government work uses this calendar.
  • Older dates: days before 2019 are converted with the same rule; printed almanacs of that time can differ by a day.
  • Religious dates (tithi) are set by separate astronomical almanacs and are not shown here.
More: a short history of the Bangla calendar

There are several accounts of how the Bangla era (Bangabda) began; the most common one links it to the Mughal emperor Akbar, who introduced a harvest-based solar year to make tax collection easier. Because it follows the sun, the new year arrives at about the same time every year.

Bangladesh first reformed the calendar in 1987, fixing month lengths and setting Pohela Boishakh on 14 April. The 2019 revision made the first six months 31 days and tied Falgun to the Gregorian leap year, so national days always keep their historic Bangla dates.

Frequently asked questions

What is today's Bangla date?

The result always shows the Bangla date, weekday and season for today's date on your device.

Which Bangla year is it now?

1433 Bangabda runs from 14 April 2026 to 13 April 2027. 1434 starts on 14 April 2027.

How do I get the Bangla year from the English year?

If the date is on or after 14 April, subtract 593; before 14 April, subtract 594. October 2026 → 2026 − 593 = 1433; March 2026 → 1432.

How long are the Bangla months?

Under the Bangla Academy's 2019 revision, Boishakh to Ashwin have 31 days, Kartik to Magh 30, Falgun 29 (30 in a Gregorian leap year) and Choitro 30.

Why do Bangladesh and West Bengal dates differ?

Bangladesh uses the revised calendar with fixed month lengths, so Pohela Boishakh is always 14 April. West Bengal follows the traditional astronomical almanac, where the new year usually falls on 14 or 15 April and many dates differ by a day.

Which season is it?

Bangla has six seasons of two months each: Grishmo (Boishakh–Joishtho), Borsha (Asharh–Shrabon), Shorot (Bhadro–Ashwin), Hemonto (Kartik–Ogrohayon), Sheet (Poush–Magh), Boshonto (Falgun–Choitro).

What are the Bangla dates of national days?

In the revised calendar 21 February = 8 Falgun, 26 March = 12 Choitro and 16 December = 1 Poush — the same every year.
