GPA this semester

Your CGPA is 3.64, which is first class.

How this was calculated
  1. Credit × grade point: 3 × 4.00 + 3 × 3.75 + 3 × 3.50 + 3 × 3.25 + 1.5 × 3.75 = 49.125
  2. Semester GPA = 49.125 ÷ 13.5 = 3.64

How to use

  1. Enter the credit and pick the letter grade for each course.
  2. Use “Add course” for more rows, and “×” to remove one.
  3. To include earlier semesters, tick the box and enter your previous CGPA and the credits completed so far.
  4. Read your GPA, CGPA and class (first / second / third).

The CGPA formula

GPA = Σ(credit × grade point) ÷ Σ credits

With earlier results:

CGPA = (previous CGPA × previous credits + this term’s points) ÷ (previous credits + this term’s credits)

Example

Example 1: one semester, 5 courses

Course Credit Grade Credit × point
1 3 A+ (4.00) 12
2 3 A (3.75) 11.25
3 3 A- (3.50) 10.5
4 3 B+ (3.25) 9.75
5 1.5 A (3.75) 5.625

Total credits 13.5, total points 49.125. GPA = 49.125 ÷ 13.5 = 3.64.

Example 2: adding earlier results With a previous CGPA of 3.40 over 60 credits: (3.40 × 60 + 49.125) ÷ 73.5 = 3.44.

What to know in Bangladesh

  • UGC uniform grading (since the 2006-07 session): 80+ A+ (4.00), 75–79 A (3.75), 70–74 A- (3.50), 65–69 B+ (3.25), 60–64 B (3.00), 55–59 B- (2.75), 50–54 C+ (2.50), 45–49 C (2.25), 40–44 D (2.00), below 40 F.
  • National University classes: 3.00+ first, 2.25–2.99 second, 2.00–2.24 third class.
  • Own rules: many private universities and diploma (Technical board) programmes use different mark ranges. Use the letter grades on your transcript.
More: why credits matter, and common mistakes

Credits matter: a 3-credit course counts twice as much as a 1.5-credit lab, so good grades in big courses lift the CGPA most.

NU honours: each year has many courses and the final CGPA uses the credits of all four years. After each year, enter your previous CGPA and credits as “earlier results” and add the new year.

Common mistakes:

  1. Averaging semester GPAs: wrong when credits differ.
  2. Leaving out F courses: most universities keep their credits in the divisor.
  3. Mixing scales: university CGPA is out of 4.00, SSC/HSC GPA out of 5.00.

Frequently asked questions

How is CGPA calculated?

Multiply each course’s credit by its grade point, add them up, and divide by the total credits. For example, 3 credits of A+ (4) and 3 credits of B (3) give (12 + 9) ÷ 6 = 3.50.

What CGPA is first class?

At National University and most public universities, 3.00 and above is first class, 2.25–2.99 second class, and 2.00–2.24 third class.

How do I combine all semesters?

Add the total points (credit × grade point) and total credits of every semester, then divide points by credits. Don’t take a simple average of semester GPAs, because credits differ between semesters.

How do I convert CGPA to a percentage?

There is no single official CGPA-to-percentage formula in Bangladesh. Some universities publish their own table; ask your registrar’s office if a job or foreign application needs a percentage.

What happens to CGPA with an F?

At most universities an F keeps its credits in the divisor with 0 points, which pulls the CGPA down until the course is retaken and passed. Rules vary by university.

Do private universities grade differently?

The UGC uniform grading system is recommended for all universities, but many private universities use their own mark ranges. If you know your grade points, enter grades and the result is the same.
