The fair-price formula
Fair bus fare = distance × Tk 2.40 per km + total toll ÷ seats
BRTA’s 22 September 2026 gazette raised the inter-district rate from Tk 2.23 to Tk 2.40 per km. Route bridge tolls are divided by 51 on a 51-seat bus and by 40 on a 40-seat luxury bus, where the distance part is multiplied by 51/40. Launch fares don’t use distance math — they come from the operator table.
Example
200 km route, 51 seats, Tk 2,400 total toll, counter asks Tk 550 — overcharging?
Distance fare 200 × 2.40 = 480; toll share 2,400 ÷ 51 = about 47.06; fair price about Tk 527. At Tk 550 the counter takes Tk 23 extra.
Launch: a single cabin on Manami is Tk 1,400, double Tk 2,800; single on Surovi 7 is Tk 1,100.
What to know in Bangladesh
The new BRTA rates apply from 22 September 2026 (city Tk 2.70, minibus Tk 2.60). Charts with the old 2.23/2.53 rates will not match.
For launches, BIWTA announced +23p/km for the first 100 km and +20p/km beyond in September 2026; Dhaka–Barishal deck was reported moving from Tk 300 to Tk 350. The table below was verified 1 July 2026 — the September hike may have moved prices.
Bridge tolls belong inside the fare; take a receipt if extra toll money is demanded. Overcharged? Keep the ticket and report to BRTA.

Deck means sleeping on the open deck with your own bedding — the cheapest ticket; sofa is a sitting seat. A single cabin sleeps 1, a double 2; VIP cabins add space and an attached bathroom. Double for families, single for solo travellers.
At Eid, cabins sell out 10–15 days ahead — book early and confirm by phone. Eid prices vary by operator, so treat the table as normal-time guidance.
In bad weather launches can be cancelled; know the counter’s refund or next-trip adjustment rule. Fog delays night launches — normal in winter.

Deck is a cheap open-deck ticket, sofa is a sitting seat, single fits 1 person and double 2 in a sleeping cabin, and VIP cabins are larger with an attached bathroom. For example on Manami: deck Tk 400, single Tk 1,400, double Tk 2,800, VIP Tk 6,500.
The official deck fare is Tk 404 but the counter takes Tk 350 — which is right?
Both are partly right. BIWTA's per-km math puts deck fare near Tk 404, but operators charge about Tk 350 at the counter. This checker shows the operator-table price (verified 2026-07-01) — the Sep-2026 hike may have moved prices.

Why do 51-seat and 40-seat buses charge different fares?
A 40-seat luxury bus splits the same cost over fewer seats, so BRTA multiplies the distance part by 51/40. For 100 km that is Tk 240 on 51 seats and Tk 306 on 40 seats; the toll is also divided by 40.
How do I book a launch cabin in advance for Eid?
Cabins sell out 10–15 days before Eid — book early and confirm by phone, keeping the receipt. Table prices are for normal times; operators may charge more at Eid.
After the Padma Bridge — launch or bus?
Take the bus to save time (3–4 hours via the Padma Bridge) or a launch cabin to sleep through the night. Deck is cheapest; a single cabin costs about as much as a luxury bus seat. Compare both fair prices in this checker.
