Heat, sport, heavy work, fever or diarrhoea raise losses — drink above the rule then. Pale-yellow urine means you are on track; dark yellow means drink more.
Frequently asked questions
How much water should I drink daily?
A common rule is 35 ml per kg of body weight. At 60 kg that is 60 × 35 = 2,100 ml or 2.1 litres.
How are glasses counted?
One glass is taken as 250 ml. So 2.1 litres means 2,100 ÷ 250 = 8.4 glasses.
Can drinking too much water harm?
Do not drink a huge amount at once. Spread it through the day. With kidney or heart conditions, follow your doctor.
Do tea and coffee count?
Partly, but plain water is the main count. Do not cut water because you had tea or coffee.
Do children need a different amount?
Yes. Children's needs vary by age and weight; the 35 ml rule is for adults. Ask a doctor for a child.
